The object of the Gem Game is to "mine" the gems from the playing board. To do this, you can shift any two adjacent (horizontally or vertically) gems. In order to successfully "mine", you need to create a row or column of at least 3 similar gems. When you do, the gems will be pulled from the board, those above them will drop down, and new gems will fall into place at the top.
In order to maximize your score, try looking for moves that will either make a chain of 4 or 5 gems, or create two separate chains (of two different type gems) once the two pieces are swapped; the more gems you mine in a single move, the higher your score.
Another advanced tip is to try to identify where the gems will fall, when a chain is removed -- If you remove a chain, and the pieces fall and form new chains, those will also be removed (And the points added). The more gems in a single move, the higher the score! If you need help, you can hit the 'Hint' button on level 1, but it will deduct 50 points. Levels 2 through 5 are for the advanced players, as they have time limits imposed (With additional time granted for each successful move).
