2000 Baby Photos Page 3

Here are some more photos of the babies that the rehabbers are getting in this year.

baby porcupine Many thanks to Daryl, a rehabber in Maine, for sharing this photo of a baby porcupine. She is approximately 5 weeks of age and weighs in at 1400 grams. Darly got her from an Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Officer who found her on the road next to her mom, who had been hit by a car. She is very healthy and will do just fine.

Daryl has 2 porcupine moms that each have one baby and he is going to let one of them raise the baby. This is a wonderful option that he has, to let a mom raise them. Once in awhile we are fortunate enough to do this.

Many thanks to Daryl, a rehabber in Maine, for sharing more pictures of the baby porcupines that he has. You can really see the toenails in these photos and the need for the gloves that he wears to handle them. Darly said that the adoptive mom "Sweetums" was not real thrilled with being disturbed to take one of her adoptive baby to have the picture taken, but hopefully she is not too upset.

Daryl is real lucky to have a porcupine mom living in his woodshed that took this newest baby with no questions asked and now she is raising the newest arrival.

A little information from Daryl on porcupines and the things that he has observed. "Porcupines coloring seems to run from brown to black, with the quills showing as white. I have a big male around who looks like a ghost at night as he is mostly quills in the summer. The females tend to have more fur than the males and less quills, although these are all just observations I have made here." Thanks again Daryl for sharing the pictures.

baby red squirrels
Thanks again Daryl for sending the photo of these adorable baby red squirrels. He got them in from a woodcutter who had them for 2 days. The guy felt really bad about cutting down their home and did leave them in a box for the mom to come and get them, but she never did. He heard about Daryl and took them to him. After a day of rehydration they are now on formula and doing great and already getting a little fiesty.
