Well here is another baby season under way and here are some more of the babies that the rehabbers are getting in this year.

Many thanks to Nonda, the Squirrel Connection in Ohio, for sharing these photos of a female albino squirrel that she got this year. You can tell it is an albino and not a white squirrel by the its pink eyes. This lovely lady will be released next spring.

Many thanks to the Squirrel Connection in Georgia, for sharing these photos of 2 baby beavers that she got in this year. The first 2 photos are of one of the beavers at 1 week of age. He came from Macon, Georgia and weighed in at 420 grams. The second one arrived a week later and was the same age as the first one. The photo of them together was taken at approximately 4 months of age and weighed in at 15 pounds each.

• The parents mate for life and share in the care of the infants.
• The babies stay with the family until about age 2. With the yearlings helping to care for the youngsters.
• The beavers wear a perpetual smile due to the fact that their lips meet behind their front teeth which allows them to gnaw on trees under water.
• Their eyes have a clear membrane that protects the eye under water and the nostrils and ears close to keep the water out.
• I've observed 6 week old babies "building a dam" in the doorway of my bathroom using towels that they've pulled down, the bath mat and various sticks and stuffed animals.
• They throw temper tantrums when unhappy and sound very much like human toddlers having a fit.
• They are the gentlest of creatures.
